Craig Woods is an experienced litigator whose practice focuses particularly on expert intensive matters involving personal injury, health risk assessment, product liability, and environmental risk assessment and contamination. He represents national and multi-national corporations in toxic tort, chemical, pharmaceutical, and biotechnology product liability litigation; and other engineering and technology-related disputes.

Drawing on his strong science and engineering background, Craig has extensive experience organizing multidisciplinary expert teams with medical, science, exposure, environmental, and engineering backgrounds and mounting and defending against expert testimony admissibility challenges under Daubert/Frye. His unique skill set allows him to understand and synthesize complex scientific and medical principles into jury-friendly arguments and winning litigation strategies. He is also highly skilled in the use of court-appointed experts and expert analysis, testing and simulations to support litigation. Other areas of Craig’s practice encompass matters such as explosion/fire cause and origin investigations, fraud, defamation, negligence, patent disputes, contract disputes, malicious prosecution, insurance disputes, trademark controversies, unfair competition, and other critical areas of business litigation.

  • Chemical Environmental/Toxic Tort Litigation

    Serving as national counsel to chemical manufacturer in product liability and environmental litigation in state and federal courts around the country and in federal MDL alleging environmental contamination/damage, property damage, and current and future personal injuries in individual, consolidated, and class actions. Responsible for overseeing scientific, engineering, medical, and technical aspects of the litigation.

    Lead Litigation

    Served as counsel to client involved in litigation arising from the water crisis in Flint, Michigan alleging exposures to elevated levels of lead in drinking water. Oversaw expert aspects of the litigation involving personal injury and human health risk claims, which included working with experts with disciplines in epidemiology, exposure science, medical toxicology, environmental medicine, pediatrics, analytical chemistry/physics, neuropsychology, civil engineering, water treatment engineering, and corrosion science.

    Asbestos Litigation

    Served as national counsel to Fortune 100 company in connection with toxic tort product liability litigation arising out of former sales of asbestos-containing products. Responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating science defense and multi-disciplinary expert teams — including areas of pulmonology, occupational medicine, pathology, industrial hygiene, material science, microscopy, toxicology, and epidemiology — simultaneously in multiple jurisdictions around the United States.  Succeeded in several Daubert challenge to limit and exclude causation testimony.

    Isocyanate Litigation

    Served as counsel to Fortune 100 company in connection with 1300 plaintiff consolidated product liability case in Alabama state court arising out of sales of isocyanates for use in coal mine roof and ventilation control polyurethane products. Responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating science defense including mounting Frye challenge to admissibility of testimony from pulmonology and toxicology expert witnesses.

    Diacetyl Litigation

    Served as national counsel to manufacturer of diacetyl involved in numerous personal injury lawsuits around the country relating to exposures to butter flavoring products. Responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating science defense, including mounting challenges to admissibility of expert testimony.

    Metoclopramide Litigation

    National science and expert team member for Schwarz Pharma in litigation involving Reglan® relating to neurological injury claims.

    Sprint Fidelis Lead Litigation

    National science and expert team member for Medtronic in litigation concerning Medtronic’s Sprint Fidelis® heart defibrillator leads.

    Welding Fume Litigation

    National science and expert team member for consortium of welding product manufactures in litigation alleging exposure to manganese from welding caused neurological injuries.
